Sherman Alexie
Sherman Alexie is my favorite author, flat out. If you haven't read anything of his, start with his latest book, "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian". I also really like his short stories and poetry - "The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven" is a hilarious, brilliant collection of stories.
