Rimutaka Rail Trail

Took a mountain bike ride today along the Rimutaka Rail Trail. No batts, no cam, no pics, just me on a lent bike with my eyes and my ears. It was a good ride - more a gravel road than a trail, so not too trying for a beginning mountain biker. The tunnels are disorientating. Riding through the longest tunnel in the dark the end was barely visible. It makes it hard to keep your balance on the bike, and a couple of us ran into the side of the tunnel. Riding fast was actually the best way to go, just focusing on the end and trying to hold a line. It was beautiful and a little bit frightening, just like the rest of New Zealand has been.

It's cool to see old railways getting used as parks.
