I'm enjoying spring here almost as much as the tuis are enjoying the flax. Their bills aren't usually as yellow as the one in the photo - that's all flax pollen. I took the photo at the sanctuary while I was volunteering. Those tuis are so cheeky, it took me two hours to finally get a picture of one on a stalk before it flew away!
I've tried single track mountain biking and surfing in the last week, and I can see a very fun, very active summer ahead. It's so easy to get out and about here, and so far I've just been borrowing or hiring gear for ridiculously cheap. It makes it easier to really hunker down and churn out data when I know I've got a beautiful sunny run or a paddle out in the bay at the end of the day.

Hey Elizabeth! It sounds like things are going well! Dang those cheeky tuis; I spent a lot of time trying to capture photos of native birds when I was in NZ. Alas, I was only able to get a good shot of a "kaki" (black stilt)...but that's because it was in a cage. :(
