Ah well, all good things have to come to an end, and so here I sit in the airport awaiting my departure from Seattle. I love this city, and it's been a great visit back. Lots of good family time, lots of time with friends, and lots of just wandering around the city and soaking up the sun. I didn't get to see everyone and do everything I'd hoped, but that's life. There is definitely something to be said for knowing where you truly belong, and for me Seattle is it.
That said, there are a number of reasons it will be good to get back to Wellyworld (in spite of it being winter down there). I've got a lot of data to generate, and new ideas for my project that I'm really excited to pursue. But the best news I got while I've been here is that I'll be TAing a course on evolution... and I might even get paid for it!
Teaching about Darwin. It's one of my life's dreams come true.
I can't believe I'm getting paid and getting a degree for my project. Seriously. It's too much damn fun. The catch, of course, being that I'm several thousand miles from home...
Speaking of fun... one thing I have really missed is going to shows, and I got to make up for it a bit over the course of the trip. I'll try to write up what I saw while I was back in a future post, but I'll leave you with a youtube video of the Devil Makes Three, which was definitely the pick of the litter:
Finally, a big thanks to all my buddies who came out to shows, let me surf their couches, and bought my poor ass beer, food, and coffee. I'm one lucky duck. Here's to hoping that I see y'all again soon and get to even the score.
